low carb advantages

Obviously, commitment to a low carb diet is going to result in a number of health benefits like weight loss, especially if clean eating is combined with physical activity. However, there is a lot more benefits to low carb diets than simply losing a few pounds. This is why we will explore these ideas in more detail throughout this post to provide you some general knowledge on why these diets are so important. I hope that this will help motivate you to remain dedicated to your low carb diet and go “all in” in the New Year.

1 – Low Carb Diets Lead to Weight Loss

As mentioned, following a low carb diet to help with weight loss is a very common reason to begin the diet. Counting calories is not a fun approach to losing weight, but a low carb diet can be structured around mindful eating and not obsessive counting and tracking. In other words, it is more important to be mindful of what you eat as opposed to continuously counting every single calorie in your foods. In the end, the reduction of carbs results in consuming fewer calories. Putting your body in a caloric deficit (consuming less calories than what we burn off) consistently helps you to shed off unwanted body fat. This is not only something that I have noticed based on my experience, but also something that has been proven scientifically. Several studies have shown that individuals who follow low carb diets lose more weight than other forms of dieting (e.g., low fat diets).  Although it is good to see the results personally, it is good to know that what you are doing actually has been proven by science.

2 – Low Carb Diets Reduce the Risk of Heart Disease

Some people begin dieting because they worry about having health issues in life, like cardiovascular disease, or more commonly known as heart disease. This is when an individual has complications involving their heart, like angina and myocardinal infarction (more commonly known as heart attack). Studies have found that following a healthy well-balanced low carb diet can reduce the risk factors associated with heart complications, like heart attacks. For those of you that do not know, risk factors are attributes, characteristics, or exposure of an individual that increases the likelihood of developing a disease, like heart disease. Thus, it is key to reduce risk factors in order to prevent health complications in the future. Fortunately, low carb diets is one way to lead a healthier, longer, and more fulfilling life with your loved ones.

3 – Low Carb Diets Increase your Self Esteem

Low carb diets can be very good for mental health, including increasing your self-esteem.  Essentially, this is an individual’s own evaluation of their self-worth. Some individuals who do not have control over their future often lack self-esteem and end up depressed. For example, someone who cannot stop overeating (typically tasty foods high in carbs like pizza, fries, burgers, etc.) lacks control over his or her life. This lack of control makes him or her feel hopeless. However, someone who is able to be mindful of the amount of carbs that they consume is more likely to lose weight and feel better about themselves. Having control over outcomes in your life is important, but also having a positive body image of yourself is good too. With a low carb diet this is all possible.

4 – Low Carb Diets Increase your Energy Levels

By removing excess carbs (and unneeded sugar), low carb diets can increase energy levels drastically. Although sugar can give you a boost of energy, this is only temporary. Thus, you will feel energized for a short period of time before you crash and feel more lethargic. Low carb diets, however, enable you to consume healthy alternatives like fruits (which contains natural sugar) and vegetables. This results in higher levels of energy for prolonged periods of time with no consequences of crashing after you reach a peak. Part of this is due to improved mental clarity. Being able to think clearer allows you to expend energy more efficiently. Some say that eating an apple a day keeps the doctor away. Others say that eating an apple is like having a cup a coffee. Don’t believe me? Give it a shot yourself and let us know if it works for you! Trust me, you wont be disappointed.

5 – Low Carb Diets Burn More Belly Fat

Following a low carb diet can result in the loss of weight, but also losing belly fat. Getting a six pack is often desired by most people. However, many people struggle to achieve this goal. Why? Often times we put in the time in the gym doing sit-ups, crunches, and other abdominal exercises. This means you are on the right track, but without combining a solid gym routine with a strong low carb diet you are only setting yourself up for failure. A low carb diet often times involves eating less grams of fat on a daily basis and this is key if you are aiming for those rock solid abs, like the famous rapper LL Cool J. Although abs are often desired for aesthetic reasons, it is also important to reduce risks of health-related issues, such as metabolic dysfunction, insulin resistance, and inflammation. Thus, it’s a no brainer. Start a no carb diet today to get those “washboard” abs and improve your health.
